Replacing the Indoor and Outdoor Units for Partial R-22 Replacement

If total replacement is financially impossible, installing indoor and outdoor units by reusing the writing, pipework and power supply, will cut your expenses in half while still upgrading your system. The installation time will also be reduced because all you’re doing is replacing the indoor and outdoor units. This is a very viable alternative for most people due to the reliability of such a change and the affordability.

Incorporating a Drop-In Refrigerant

Although this is the cheapest way, it’s also the riskiest. A drop-in will perform like the R-22 but without harm to the environment. However, there is a high possibility that the system can become unreliable and expensive to maintain. Also, adding a replacement to an existing R-22 refrigerant should never be done. Therefore, a drop-in should only be a short-term measure until one of the other options is feasible.

The alternatives to R-22 include R-507, R-134a, R-407c, R-404-A, R-410A and more. They are efficient, energy friendly, won’t harm the environment and the ozone layer. There are also modern features on refrigerants that aid in the energy efficiency.
